Over the centuries, Saint-Dié-des-Vosges has been the scene of many historic events, including military conflicts linked to the wars between France and the Holy Roman Empire. The Le Corbusier site at Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, also known as the “Maisons Jaoul”, is a complex of two houses in the Vosges region of France. These two houses, built between 1954 and 1956, are considered emblematic examples of Le Corbusier’s work. Nature and hiking in Saint Dié les Vosges
Saint Dié les Vosges offers a wide range of hikes at different levels, accessible to both beginners and experienced walkers. The ” Kemberg massif ” hike is a very pleasant half-day outing for the whole family. Explore this 6 km trail (approx. 2h30 for a 300 m difference in altitude), mostly shaded by fir trees.
Admire the views of the town of Saint Dié, the Rocher Saint-Martin and the Rocher du Kiosque. The starting point is at the top of rue de l’Hermitage. You can park in the cul-de-sac on your right. More experienced hikers will appreciate the “les cinq roches du Kemberg” circuit, starting from the Saint Dié les Vosges train station. This 13 km hiking trail (approx. 5 hrs, with an ascent of 460 m) is a great way to discover the charms of the Kemberg massif and its remarkable viewpoints.
To take full advantage of this unspoilt natural setting, take your mountain bike on the marked trails in Saint Dié. The 20 km Kemberg mountain bike tour (approx. 1h30 and 400 m ascent), starting from the rue des Folmard, follows a forest path. The route offers some very fine views, particularly of the Kiosque rock. To discover the heights of Saint Dié, take the “ Quatre Bornes ” itinerary by bike. This 42 km circuit is reserved for experienced mountain bikers due to its steep gradient (1100 m).
Walks and hikes in the Ballon des Vosges Regional Nature Park
The Ballon des Vosges Regional Nature Park is a veritable open-air playground. In this vast protected natural area, you and your family can enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities. Hiking is one of the most popular activities for holidaymakers, who can admire the superb variety of landscapes (forests, Vosges villages, castles, rivers and lakes) at their own pace. This natural territory boasts six Grande Randonnée trails. There are also hiking trails offered by local tourist offices and routes marked by the Club Vosgien, making a total of 7,000 km of trails throughout the park! Whether you’re on your own or accompanied by a guide, the whole family can explore this exceptional area.
During the summer season, the regional park also offers 9 guided tours that combine hiking and discovering the region’s farm inns. The Felsach or Gustiberg farm inns are just an hour’s drive from the campsite. The farm innkeepers offer a warm welcome and will be delighted to show you their ancestral know-how. At the same time, sample the local produce (cheeses, sauerkraut, charcuterie, etc.).
